Registrations are open for a five-day Open Standards / Healthy Country Planning workshop adjacent to the Daintree National Park Wet Tropics World Heritage Area. Using a well-proven adult learning approach, this intensive live-in course will give people a good understanding of how these tools can be directly used in their own work.

The course is delivered under the Protected Areas Learning and Research Collaboration jointly by James Cook University and Conservation Management.

The course will introduce the concepts, steps and structures of the Open Standards for the Practice of Conservation by using the Daintree National Park – part of the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area, recognised for the area’s exceptional natural beauty, biological
diversity, evolutionary history, and cultural significance to the Eastern Kuku Yalanji Aboriginal people.

Students will work in small teams to pursue specific threads through the entire adaptive planning and management loop and learn
how to integrate these threads into a powerful, ongoing, planning and management framework.

The knowledge gained is readily implemented and applicable for use in a diverse range of protected areas, including those
managed by governments, non-government organisations, private landholders and Indigenous communities.

The approach is also applicable to conservation projects and property planning and management at any scale. It is increasingly
used by government and non- government agencies across diverse jurisdictions and geographies.

The course costs $2,310 (inc GST) including all food, accommodation, transport from Cairns and materials. Limited scholarships are avaiable for PALRC courses.
