NABU (BirdLife in Germany), SOS/BirdLife Slovakia and BirdLife Europe invite you to a workshop on “Nature Conservation and EU Financing: Challenges, Best Practices and Options”.
Despite a number of EU and Member State successes in nature conservation, biodiversity and ecosystems are in decline across Europe. In 2015 the European Commission started to carry out a “Fitness Check” of the EU’s Birds and Habitats Directives. So far, this exercise revealed that the Directives are effective and fit for purpose when they are fully implemented. However, the preliminary findings of the Fitness Check also highlight that availability and ease of access of appropriate funding is the greatest barrier to effective implementation.
This workshop will bring together nature conservation experts, decision-makers and stakeholders from across the EU (with a focus on the CEE region) to discuss how best to address the deficiencies in existing finance and how that may be addressed in the upcoming reforms of the EU Multiannual Financial Framework. The views of key Member State governments will be combined with the experience of practitioners.
