Title: Scenario Planning in Theory and Practice

Summary: Scenario development and scenario planning has become increasingly popular over the last decades, within the climate change community but increasingly also in other disciplines. As a result, the number of scenario studies, and approaches and methods used to develop them has exploded. This webinar consists of two main parts to shed light on the different uses of “scenarios”. The first part, presented by Kasper Kok will focus on the background, definitions, approaches, and state-of-the-art methods. This part will also include a quick overview of recent scenario endeavours, importantly the new global IPCC-guided scenarios, the Shared Socioeconomic Pathways. The second part, presented by Joost Vervoort will focus on one concrete example; the scenario development process and results within the CGIAR programme on Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS). Joost will present the methods and (selected) results of scenario development activities in seven multi-country regions across the globe. He will also elaborate on how these scenarios have been used in practice across a number of global regions to test and develop policy plans.
