The International Land Conservation Network is thrilled to announce Fundación Tierra Austral (FTA) as the recipient of the inaugural 2025 Conservation Innovation Award. FTA is recognized for its implementation of the Derecho Real de Conservación, a legal tool and regulatory framework for perpetual land conservation in Chile. The award will support dissemination and transfer of the innovation to other geographies and jurisdictions.

Latin America has a long history of leadership in voluntary land conservation. The region, home to 6 of the world’s 17 megadiverse countries, is key to advancing and achieving global biodiversity and climate goals. As Target 3 of the 2022 Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework recognizes, the conservation of the region’s biodiversity will require the direct and inclusive participation of landowners and local communities. This article explores regulatory frameworks from Mexico to Argentina that support voluntary conservation initiatives and how they are evolving to strengthen enabling conditions for bottom-up action.

Australian Land Conservation Alliance Seeking Sector Development Lead
 
Are you passionate about building a stronger, more connected conservation sector that delivers real impact for nature and people? Do you thrive at the intersection of strategy, collaboration and sector-wide capacity building? ALCA is seeking a dynamic Sector Development Lead to help deliver ALCA's strategic plan to build a high capable, networked and coordinated sector. In this role, you will drive initiatives that strengthen workforce capability, expand career pathways. You will curate high quality touchpoints for learning and networking across the sector. A critical part of this role is to lead the delivery of ALCA's flagship annual conference, one of Australia's premier conservation and land management events, ensuring it continues to grow, inspire and connect hundreds of Australian and international delegates ahead of the 2027 Global Congress.

Cornell Lab's Land Trust Bird Conservation Initiative: RFP Opening Soon!
 
Each year, the Cornell Lab’s Land Trust Bird Conservation Initiative small grant program supports projects that help accelerate and amplify land stewardship and bird conservation on private lands. In 2026, the program will award a total of $260,000 to land trusts and their partners to support 14 projects across the U.S. The RFP opens the first week of January, with applications due March 1 and funds distributed in May—see the Request for Proposals to learn more and apply. 
  • Capacity and Partnership Projects – 6 grants of $10,000 each  
  • Management and Restoration Projects – 8 grants of $25,000 each

LIFE PAME-Europe: Call For Pilot Sites Now Open

The project is looking for 45 Protected Areas to help test and shape a new LIFE PAME-Europe Framework for Management Effectiveness Evaluation that will support better conservation outcomes across Europe.
 
By becoming a pilot site, your Protected Area will:
  • Join a European-wide community of practitioners working on Management Effectiveness.
  • Receive tailored training and expert guidance, including a two-day seminar in March 2026 near Prague.
  • Access the European Nature Academy’s learning hub and ongoing support.
  • Receive financial support for training-related and local pilot activities.
Pilot sites will play a central role in improving the Framework, testing it in practice, and sharing feedback that will shape future conservation tools across Europe.
 
Applications are open until 12 December 2025.
