ILCN Webinar: Presenting the CGS Data Wizard for the Protected Planet Database

As countries work towards the goal of protecting 30 percent of their lands and waters by 2030, accurately reflecting progress towards the "30x30" target continues to be a challenge. The IUCN’s Protected Planet database is the most up to date and complete source of this data at a global level. The database enables governments and organizations to submit data on protected and conserved land, but it can be challenging for organizations with different approaches to data gathering and management to format their data for submission. In partnership with the ILCN, the Lincoln Institute’s Center for Geospatial Solutions (CGS) has developed a "Data Wizard" intended to help organizations and institutions correctly format their data to meet the standards of the IUCN’s Protected Planet database of protected and conserved areas. The Data Wizard is now available in beta, and we hope to gather feedback on the tool’s performance to identify issues and bugs.

Please join the ILCN and CGS for a demonstration of the Data Wizard in action presented by Kyle Onda, Internet of Water Director at the Center for Geospatial Solutions. The webinar will feature an exploration of the tool’s functionality and answer questions from users ahead of its beta launch.

The Data Wizard is now live and can be found here: https://internetofwater.shinyapps.io/wdpa-oecm-wizard/

Please feel free to submit questions in advance for the webinar by including them in your registration or by emailing Robin Beckham at rbeckham@lincolninst.edu.

ILCN Event: Celebrating the Conservation History of the Longfellow HouseWashington’s Headquarters National Historic Site
The Longfellow House–Washington’s Headquarters National Historic Site served as the headquarters for George Washington during the siege of Boston, but it was also once the home of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. The Longfellow family was instrumental in conserving land running from the Longfellow House down to the Charles River, and across to Soldiers Field. Today, much of the land they helped conserve remains protected from development, and the National Historic Site is an important part of the region's larger conservation history.

Celebrating the publication of the article, "A View of the Charles: how an American poet’s love for his Cambridge estate conserved a piece of the city’s most desirable land," the Lincoln Institute invites you, in person at 113 Brattle Street or online via Zoom, to join this presentation about the history and conservation legacy of the Longfellow House. Following a presentation from ILCN Director and co-author Jim Levitt, staff from the National Parks Service will lead a tour of the grounds of the Longfellow House–Washington's Headquarters National Historic Site for in-person participants.
